“So whenever you’re looking for a surgeon, realize you need someone who’s credentialed and qualified; that is important to have. But the other big thing about all of this is, do they produce the results that you want? Before and after pictures are important, their artistic eye is important. Talk to them. What is the feeling that you get when you go into the office? Do you feel comfortable? Do you feel rushed? Do they look like and feel like they care about you? All of those things are important. It’s not just the result; it truly is your experience. We want to make sure that things go right and that people are paying attention, and that’s what you’re looking for when you’re looking for a cosmetic surgeon.”–Dr. Samir Pancholi

What you need to know

Q: Is Dr. Pancholi a cosmetic or plastic surgeon?

A: Both. He is a fellowship-trained diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He is also board certified in otolaryngology/facial plastic surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery).

Q: What’s the difference between a cosmetic surgeon and a plastic surgeon?

A: Cosmetic surgeons are specifically trained and specialize in performing all aspects of cosmetic surgery. Plastic surgeons are trained to do reconstructive surgery and may perform cosmetic surgery, as well. Dr. Pancholi practices cosmetic surgery exclusively.

Q: What does it mean to be a diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery?

A: It means that his training, experience, and expertise were highly scrutinized and evaluated before he was given the “stamp of approval” in his specialty by a select group of recognized experts in the field. To achieve his status as a diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Pancholi completed a one-year fellowship in cosmetic surgery in addition to his surgery residencies, completed over 1200 individual cosmetic surgery cases, and passed a rigorous two-day examination.

Q: Do such credentials really matter?

A: Yes. Any medical doctor can actually call him/herself a cosmetic surgeon simply by performing cosmetic surgery procedures. Many doctors from different specialties have not met the strict requirements needed to become a diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Pancholi has demonstrated the specific training and surgical skill necessary to perform cosmetic surgery with safety and integrity.

Q: How can I verify that a doctor is an American Board of Cosmetic Surgery diplomate?

A: You can go to www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery.org to search for a doctor’s name and I would encourage you to do that.

Q: Where will my procedure be done?

A: Dr. Pancholi performs all cosmetic surgery procedures in his fully accredited, on-site surgical suite that meets the highest standards for patient safety. Dr. Pancholi also has full admitting and surgical privileges for all of the cosmetic procedures he performs at Spring Valley Hospital, located about 3 miles from our office.

Q: Who administers anesthesia when Dr. Pancholi performs cosmetic surgery?

A: Highly trained board certified anesthesiologists (medical doctors who have been trained specifically to administer anesthesia) will dedicate their attention to your anesthesia while Dr. Pancholi performs your cosmetic surgery procedure.

Q: Why is it important to have a board certified anesthesiologist give the anesthesia when other cosmetic surgeons do it themselves?

A: Dr. Pancholi works with board certified MD/DO anesthesiologists because this is all they do and they have the highest level of training to administer anesthesia. This means Dr. Pancholi is able to focus completely on your surgery while your anesthesiologist monitors your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure. This gives you the highest possible level of safety and care.

Q: Does Dr. Pancholi have hospital privileges?

A: Yes, and this is important. Although complications are unlikely, you want to know that your doctor can care for you in a hospital setting if that is determined to be the level of care you need. To ensure that you get the highest level of safety, Dr. Pancholi has both admitting AND surgical privileges for all of his cosmetic surgery procedures.

Q: How do I find out if a doctor has hospital privileges?

A: You can call your local hospital to find out if the doctor you are considering has both admitting and surgical privileges. To protect yourself fully, we recommend that you do this.

Q: Does Dr. Pancholi have a good reputation?

A: Dr. Pancholi is considered an expert in his field, and has one of the fastest-growing cosmetic surgery practices in Las Vegas. He has twice been appointed by the governor of Nevada to serve on the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. He’s performed live surgery demonstrations of facial, breast, and body cosmetic procedures, teaching other surgeons to learn his techniques, and has lectured on cosmetic surgery locally, nationally, and internationally. He’s also been the guest doctor on a number of “Ask the Doctor” radio programs and been featured in both the New York Times and the Las Vegas Sun.
