Should I Bring My BFF to My Breast Augmentation Consultation?
So you’ve decided to get serious about breast augmentation, and you’re ready to schedule a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon. First of all, congratulations! This is an exciting step in getting the shape you’ve always wanted.
No doubt you’re looking forward to talking about options and trying on implant sizes, but if you’re like a lot of patients, you may also be a little nervous. After all, you’ve never done this before, and you want to make sure you get the most out of every consultation.
A lot of women want to know if it’s okay to bring a best friend, boyfriend, or spouse along to their consultation for support. The good news is that most cosmetic surgeons, myself included, have no problem with people bringing along a trusted friend. In fact, I find it can be rather helpful for many of my own patients, for a number of reasons:
- You’ll have a second set of ears to help you remember important details. A friend can help you remember specifics of what you and the surgeon discussed at the consultation. Someone who loves you and knows you well may also be able to offer a valuable perspective on the surgeons you visit and help you decide who is the right doctor for you.
- You can get valuable feedback on different looks as you choose your implant size. A trusted friend can offer thoughts on how implant sizes look on your frame and help you know when you’ve found the size that’s really “you.” Just remember, no matter who is offering opinions, it’s you who needs to be thrilled about your new look. If you’re having trouble choosing, please share this with me. As an experienced cosmetic surgeon, I will guide you toward the implant size, shape and profile that will best fit your body and give you the look you want.
- Your post-op caretaker can get helpful info about your recovery first-hand. While I or any other qualified cosmetic surgeon will provide you with detailed recovery instructions no matter what, having your designated post-op helper there to meet me allows that person to ask questions to help make your recovery as smooth and comfortable as possible.
- You can celebrate the decision to make positive changes for yourself with those who know and love you the best. Whether you’re bringing someone because you think you’ll need the help, or simply because you love the company, having a friend by your side can be a bonding experience.
While having a friend along has its plusses, it’s only a good option if you will benefit from having company. Before you bring your boyfriend to your plastic surgery consultation, make sure that you’ll be completely comfortable with another person there. You should not feel like you’re being pressured at all or that you have to hold back any private information I will need, such as details of your medical history.
The bottom line? Whether or not to bring someone to your breast augmentation consultation is a personal decision. Just as each patient has unique reasons for having breast augmentation, each patient’s experience is unique. Many women prefer to come to a consultation solo, and that’s okay too.
If you are considering taking the next steps towards enhancing your breasts, I invite you to contact our office to set up your own consultation. With your BFF or on your own, I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have and help you learn more about the procedure.
